Morning Arrival: We have had a great first seven days of school despite the roadwork! Thank you for your patience and cooperation! Now that we have the routines down, beginning Monday, August 10th, we will return to normal operating procedures for morning arrival times. Just as in prior years, entry to the car rider drop-off line closes at 7:35. The "entry" is considered to be the spot where Coach Richardson stands at the entry to staff parking. After 7:35, Coach Richardson will put out the orange cones to close car rider and staff members will direct you to park in staff parking. You will need to park in a spot and then escort your child(ren) to the crosswalk and a staff member will walk them across once traffic clears. Please do not stop in the middle of the parking lot. Golf carts will also close at 7:35. At that time, golf cart riders will need to be escorted by their parent/guardian. Arrivals after 7:40 will need to park and walk their student(s) to the front office and check in. Instruction begins at 7:40 and we need our staff helping with car rider/golf cart arrivals to be in the building by this time. Thank you for helping us to be safe while also being conscientious of school start time.

Copy Crew: Our Copy Crew comes in on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the library to make teacher and/or grade level copies. Copy Crew sign ups were sent out last week. Please check ParentSquare for the post.

Back-to-School Night: Mark your calendars to join us on Tuesday, August 25th for Back-to-School Night! Our teachers will offer sessions in their classrooms at both 6:00 and 6:30 P.M. to share important information about class routines, curriculum, grading, and more. We hope you can join us!

Do you love building, coding, researching, writing, speaking, and collaborating with friends? The Gizmos are looking for creative and dedicated 4th or 5th graders to compete in the 2026 FIRST® LEGO® League Robotics Competition!

Try‑Outs: Tuesday, August 18th — stay after school until 5:00 PM. For tryouts, students will be dismissed from homerooms and report directly to the Media Center when afterschool is called. Pick up after tryouts will be around the back of the school near the gym.

Required Practices: If you make the team, this will start on Monday, August 24th, 2026, and be every Monday until 4:30 PM, with possibly added Thursday practices later in the season and extended until 5 pm. Team members must attend each practice. If your activity schedule is already full, this may not be the team for you.

Competitions: This is a competition team! The Gizmos will compete on at least one Saturday in December 2026, possibly more in January and February. The Gum Springs Gizmos have a proud history of excellence, earning invitations to compete at international competitions in both Boston and Long Beach two years in a row—and while it's never guaranteed, this year's team has the exciting opportunity to aim for that same incredible achievement!
Our team works hard AND has fun—exploring new ideas, solving problems together, and enjoying team time. We’re excited to form the 2026 Gum Springs Gizmos team of up to 8 selected students!

Mrs. Chandler’s kindergarteners brought “Five Speckled Frogs” to life with a little help from some frogs, logs, and lots of hands-on learning! 🐸🌿
As students read the story, they acted out each verse by moving the frogs from the log into the pool. Along the way, they practiced one-to-one correspondence, counting, sequencing, and story comprehension—all while having a hopping good time! 💚
We love seeing our youngest Panthers learn through movement, play, and meaningful experiences! 🐾❤️🖤

Today, Mrs. Bates’ 5th grade mathematicians kicked off their coordinate grid unit with a delicious hands-on challenge! Instead of searching for gold, these mathematicians became “cookie miners,” digging into chocolate chip cookies to uncover their sweet discoveries. 🍪
After finding each chocolate chip, students carefully plotted its exact coordinates on a grid, putting their new math skills to work in a fun and tasty way!
Who knew learning about the x-axis, y-axis, and ordered pairs could be this delicious?

What does it mean to be a maker? Our students recently took on a schoolwide STEM challenge inspired by Be A Maker by Katey Howes. After reading the story, students worked together to design and build bridges using a variety of materials, testing their creations to see how much weight they could hold.
But the greatest lesson went far beyond engineering.
Through the story, students discovered that being a maker isn't just about creating amazing things like telescopes, bridges, and towers. We can also make someone smile, make a new friend, make good choices, make a difference, and make our world a better place every single day.
As our students designed, tested, improved, and persevered through challenges, they were also reminded that the legacy we leave is built not only by what we create with our hands, but by how we impact others with our hearts.
Way to go, students! Keep making, keep creating, and keep leaving a legacy!
