As always, it has been a busy time at GSES! Tomorrow we will be wrapping up day three of our Harvest Feast. I have not seen the final tally, but we will have hosted nearly a thousand parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles over the course of those three days. A huge debt of gratitude goes out to our community for volunteering to serve food, make drinks, and greet our community and our kiddos for a wonderful meal. I would be remiss if I did not thank our staff for their flexibility and support. While we love to host the event, it does take quite a bit of preparation to execute, but our staff always comes through. Lastly, our nutrition staff is the best in the district! They have worked tirelessly to provide for this event. Thank you to Brandy Moon, who has served as the nutrition manager in our school for over a decade. After these meals are complete, she will begin her new position at the district level supporting all schools. We will miss her, but we also congratulate her on her promotion.
Our sensory playground is completed (for the most part). While we still have a few small pieces left to install, the bulk of the work has been completed. We will open the playground to our students soon. This project was made possible through a joint funding effort between our PTO, GSES school funds, and the Jackson County School System. The playground represents what makes our school community special: when we work together, we can create opportunities that benefit every student. We are grateful to everyone who supported this effort and helped bring this meaningful addition to life for our students.
This week, The Governor’s Office of Student Achievement and the Georgia Department of Education will release CCRPI scores for each school in our state. CCRPI stands for College and Career Readiness Performance Indicators, which is Georgia’s way of measuring how well schools are preparing students for the next grade level, college, and the workforce. In short, CCRPI is a tool that helps schools stay focused on what matters most: helping your child grow, succeed, and be ready for what’s next. While all data is embargoed until mid-week, please know that the hard work our teachers and students are doing is improving our school. Our community is a huge piece of that puzzle. This last Friday, GSES was highlighted as one of the elementary schools in our state to be recognized as a math and literacy leading school. This means that our growth in those areas has been significant! We are still a work in progress, but we are getting better. Thank you for all you do to support our students and our school!
All the best,
Joshua Todd, Principal
