September is Literacy Month in Georgia!

September is Literacy Month

Governor Kemp declared September Literacy Month in Georgia. This is a month to celebrate our love of reading! Mrs. Gassman and Mrs. Kollman, our school librarians, have some fun activities planned for students during school. We will also be posting weekly activities on social media for families to join in the fun! Make sure you are following Gum Springs on Facebook and Instagram to join the fun!
Athens Rock Lobsters Reading Challenge

Athens Rock Lobsters Reading Challenge!

Our Athens Rock Lobsters "Rocking & Reading Challenge" begins Monday, September 1st! The September Reading Log calendar was sent home on Friday for students to begin logging their reading minutes at home each day in September. Students who read a minimum of 1,000 minutes by Winter Break will earn a FREE Rock Lobsters hockey game ticket. The JCSS class with the most logged minutes will earn a mascot and player party in the spring!

Got questions? Contact your child's teacher or Media Specialist, Mrs. Gassman.
Student Club Signups!

Club Sign Ups

We hope your child was excited to tell you that CLUB SIGN-UPS ARE OPEN! We are excited to offer a wide variety of clubs at GSES this year, with options available for Kdg-5th grade students. Last week, students watched video commercials to preview clubs that are being offered this year. Please talk to your child about what club(s) he/she would like like to join, and let your child help you complete the sign-up form linked below. The sign-up window is open for ONE WEEK ONLY and closes on Tuesday, September 2 at 11:59 P.M. Specific information about each club can be found in the document linked in the form's directions. Please read all of the information on the form carefully. After the sign-up window closes, parents will be added to ParentSquare groups for each child’s club(s), and the advisor will reach out with specific club information. We are excited about these extra-curricular opportunities that help our students explore their passions and interests!

Student Spotlights

Fun outside!

Enjoying the Outdoors

Our students have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather by spending extra time outside. From recess to outdoor learning activities, they've loved the chance to get fresh air, move around, and enjoy time with friends under sunny skies.

ASL learning

ASL Fun!

Students in the Advanced Strategies Lab (ASL) get to experience ordinary math standards being turned into exciting, hands-on games! From practicing math skills to working as a team, and even learning to win or lose with grace, Mrs. Landers is proving to students that math can be both challenging and fun!
