Welcome to the Pre-K program at Gum Springs Elementary School! Our goal is to provide our Pre-K students with a clean, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment where they are encouraged to develop a lifelong love for learning.

Our classrooms focus on encouraging children's cognitive, social, emotional, critical thinking, and physical skills. Children are active learners and we focus on purposeful play activities reinforcing reading, math, art, dramatic play, and much much more. The Pre-K program allows your child an extra year to grow and learn, focusing on the child's interests. We look forward to a great year in Pre-K.

Welcome to Kindergarten at Gum Springs Elementary School. Kindergarten provides students with the first learning experiences in language development, number concepts, creative skills, and social and physical growth. Our kindergarten students are introduced to basic reading skills through guided reading, literacy centers, and read alouds. In math, students work in small groups learning concepts such as counting, shapes, and problem solving skills.  We work hard to provide our students with an engaging, enriching, and positive learning environment.

Welcome to 1st grade at Gum Springs Elementary School.  We are so excited for you to be with us during this amazing year of learning!  We are dedicated to helping build upon the foundation that began in kindergarten and will extend through the year in first grade.  We will learn new math concepts, phonics skills to enhance reading skills, and learn to write and publish stories.  The first grade team is dedicated to provide engaging learning opportunities and a positive learning environment so that our students gain a love of learning that will last a lifetime.  

In 2nd grade, your student will work on becoming a more experienced writer and reader by practicing their skills in more complex ways. They will move from learning how to read to reading for learning.  Students will read bigger and more complicated books, and write longer and more detailed pieces. We will also work on projects that involve research and critical thinking to show your student’s learning and understanding. At this age students also pay more attention to friendships and teamwork. We will work to foster positive cooperative learning experiences and improve social skills.

Welcome to 3rd Grade!   Some things we will explore this year include Regions of Georgia, Branches of Government, Native Americans and the European Explorers.   Third Grade is also the year for multiplication mastery, 3-digit addition and subtraction fluency, and foundation of  fractions.  We will continue to grow into stronger readers and writers as we discover strategies to improve our skills and enhance our love of literacy. Third grade is where the transition of “learning to read” changes to “reading to learn”.   We will build our classroom community using the teachings from our Social Emotional Learning program - The 7 Mindsets. In third grade, Everything is Possible.

Welcome to 4th Grade at Gum Springs Elementary School. We are so very excited to work alongside your child in his/her educational journey. In 4th grade we are committed to providing education experiences that will not only be fun and engaging, but also allow your student to grow in their learning.

Welcome to the Gum Springs Elementary School 5th grade page!  The 5th grade team is dedicated to providing our students with a quality learning environment through rigorous lessons, memorable experiences, and hands-on interactive activities.  We aim to provide guidance and preparation for a successful transition to middle school.

The goal for the ESOL program here at GSES is to enrich and develop deeper learning of academic English as students continue to grow their voices in all of their other content area skills. We are striving to increase relationships between students and teachers and among all community members. Family and community involvement are essential for supporting all learners and building strong connections so that learning happens both at home and at school.

Welcome to the Gifted Education Program at Gum Springs Elementary!  We are looking forward to a great year of learning and fun with your child.   Our goal at GSES is to do as much as we can to meet the specific learning needs of each student, which includes providing quality support services for gifted and advanced learners.  We have established teams of teachers at each grade level who will be working together to plan meaningful lessons and activities for your child this year.  Our goals this year include

• Designing activities and assignments that promote problem solving and higher-order thinking
• Creating opportunities to learn more about research and investigation
• Exploring ways that creative thinkers work and grow
• Developing communication skills through writing, oral presentation, and the use of new technologies
• Providing opportunities for students to develop independence and explore self-directed learning skills
• Learning how to embrace challenges and productive struggle
• Creating assignments that are academically rigorous

Our Specials Team mission is for all students K-5th grade to explore skills and creativity as a group and as individuals in each specific area (Music, PE, Art, Media Arts & Technology, STEM, and Advanced Strategies Lab).

Welcome to the Special Services Program at Gum Springs Elementary!  We are looking forward to a great year of learning and fun with your child.   Our goal at GSES is to do as much as we can to meet the specific learning needs of the students that qualify for special services.  We have established teams of teachers and paraprofessionals who will be working together to plan meaningful lessons and activities for your child this year.
